I want to run phase 3.5. I have my engine out at the moment and i am currently rebuilding it. What advice could you give on parts to use or modifications to make my engine completely reliable running this power? The main things i would like to know are.......

Fuel pump?
Injectors?
Standard or uprated big-end bearings?
Should i use steel rods?
Should i use forged pistons?
What headgasket?
Should i modify the head and change cams?

If there is anything else i havnt listed please recomend as i want a perfect running 3.5.

Hi Waso,

I am also currently building a P3.5+ vectra A turbo and have been consulting Wallace Performance about additional modifications to make the engine reliable.

I am replacing my fuel pump with a stronger one - EDS recomend the Bosch 909. I am using a slightly stronger Bosch 053 as it has similar pipe fittings to the OE item.

I have recently had my injectors cleaned - these should be ok, although if i decide to reduce the fuel pressure i may go for Saab red injectors or EDS uprated items.

As for the engine mods - the kit is designed to run on a standard engine. So these items are nice if you can afford them but not essential. Low comp pistons are better than the thicker headgasket but also more expensive. I am thinking of a metal gasket though.

Maybe you should think of water injection to aid piston cooling? As i will not be running full boost for a while i have time to save for it!!

There is so much to take into mind and theres also so many different veiws on engine tuning. I want to make my engine 100% reliable and for a long time. I have already purchased the 3.5 electronic kit and a custom made intercooler. The only confusion is on the main engine mods. I have an idea of what i want done but id like some advice on wether there is anything more i should do or anything i shouldnt be doing.

The spec i have in mind is new main bearings(standard), new big end shells(uprated), Con-rods stress releived and balanced. Standard pistons machined to lower compression slightly and new rings(standard), steel headgasket, head ported, re-profiled cams, uprated oil pump, red 431 injectors, 909 fuel pump, uprated actuator with a highbrid KKK, change fuel filter.

Is there anything that could be improved on?

Is there items i have uprated that i dont need to?

If you are gonna get new rings you just as well go the full hog and overbore and get some forged accrilite pistons in there. They are about 100 quid each with rings inc VAT :D

Hi !

In my opinion , you should install the oil spray piston cooling , upgrated high performance con rod bolts , z20LET steel head gasket and everthing else should be ORIGINAL , NO modified pistons , NO thicker head gaskets , its not nessesary because you kill the lower RPM region !

Than put a K26 Hybrid Charger or something else and a powerful fuel system to the car , FINISH !

These Cars are running best in normal use !

ash would water injection be just as effective as oil spray piston collong or is one better than the other
