All b*llsh*t!
3 types of cores:
tube and fin:
_flatened pipe with or without turbulators
_weak (can't hold much pressure or pipes will blow)
_bad flow (180° turn on airflow that misses the direct channels)
_ very limited in core width
_cheap to manufacture
_light weight
extruded tube and fin:
_extruded pipe with or without turbulators
_weaker heat exchange (thick wall)
_bad flow (180° turn on airflow that misses the direct channels) not the few welded models
_very limited in core width
_expensive
_heavy
bar & plate:
_plate that sepperates the channels is 0.4-0.8mm thick (very good heat transfer)
_good flow, no 180° turns
_ virtually no limmit in core dimensions
_expensive
_heavy
these are just some of the caracteristics of the 3 core types, believe me there's more to it to make the perfect intercooler (fin design, fin pitch, channel hight,...)
there's allways pro's and contra's and every manufacturer has his opinion, we have models that bring gain in power and at the same time make the car more economical  that's efficiency
