I know a couple of people on here run paddle clutches but what is recommended?? I have spoken at length with a company called Helix in the UK and they are very knowledgeable about uprated items.
They reckon that a organic plate clutch is on its absolute limits at 325bhp and will probably slip like hell on a half decent launch. They also recommend machining the flywheel pot to allow the cover plate to sit deeper into the flywheel, again anybody else done this??
I think i am going to end up with a paddle clutch, what sort of paddle clutch do you use Ash? 6/4 plate and what make?

Hi Rob,

I have a AP Racing paddle clutch fitted to my Cavalier. I am very pleased with it and although my car has nowhere near the power of yours, there are no signs of it slipping. Richard sorted mine out for me and can probably tell you more about my clutch than I can. I know he used Vauxhall parts and mated them to the AP friction plate so I still have a very light pedal.

:D

rod fairbrother had paddle clutch and didnt last long it slow traffic as he used his astra as an everyday car. Hmm didnt he have an ap paddle clutch? I think the sachs sport one would be ideal, i mean u need some slip inthe drive line other you`ll either break the txb or the gear box!

RDS hows your car coming along? has the apexi made any difference it, especially as you can set each gear for a different level of boost.

what happened to that evo ic you had, u got round to fixing it?

Hi Yunis,

The car is coming along well! I am hoping to sort out the phase 4 software as well soon. The Apexi is excellent (don't let here say rolling road figs put you off one either!!) I raced Ian McSherry in his car with phase 3.5 installed both held revs at 3k in 4th and i pulled away nicely from him :) The Apexi controls boost like it should TBH and im well happy with it. I think the paddle clutch will be next unless anyone can persuade me otherwise to buy the Sachs clutch

Whats 528nm in ib/ft???

HI Rob !

Ive some questions : Did the raced cars are really the same ?

Same intercooler ? weight ? transmission system 2x4 or 4x4 ? car type ?

Same turbocharger ?

all this are important factors !

please let us know!

regards ASH

Hi Ash,

Yes the cars that were compared were identical with regard to both being Calibra Turbos 4x4's. The only differences being that my car has a hybrid turbo (S144 from TurboTechnics-basically has a kkk-24 inlet compressor wheel in and modified exhaust turbine) Ians is a standard kkk16 unit which i know is a limitation. My intercooler is possibly a third bigger than Ians as well :D

Ians car was running phase 3.5
Mine phase 3+

Any recommendations on the clutch Ash?? possibly a price for one from yourself?
