you dont need to change the actuator its only a recommnedation.
i use the spring with my phase 3.5+ and its fine.
the spring does not need to be strong,when adjusted correctly it is very slack.

As the kits may be fitted to older cars with high mileage the spring is for those with weak actuators - if you have a new or uprated actuator you dont have to fit it

The spring also allows for very gentle adjustments.
An uprated actuator can be too stiff for fine control - it makes for very agressive movement on the wastegate, which doesn't help boost control.
I have run phase 3/3.5 for more than two years, and I've found the most adjustable set up to be a standard actuator with the spring kit.
It is in the kit for a reason :roll: If EDS thought it was better to use an uprated actuator, they would tell you.

when using the spring my car won't hold boost......drops to 0.8 bar instead of holding 1.15 bar

sounds like the actuator is not set up right or you have a leaky wastegate..
ask RDS on migweb he knows his stuff on boost.

Leave me out of it :lol: To be honest Russ's info is better than mine when it comes to the spring kit! I scrapped it for the Apexi unit :wink:

it's definatley not the wastegate as it's a new one and i've checked all the pipes for boost leaks. when i had phase 2 chips in the boost would'nt drop enough and now with phase 3 chips it drops too much

don't think i can adjust the actuator or spring anymore as i'm getting 1.5 bar overboost but it's just not holding. by the way the actuator is new

New standard actuator?
Try adjusting the actuator down a little, and add a bit more tension to the spring.
Not saying this will definitely work though, particularly if there is something else causing the boost to drop.
Incidentally, when my car ran phase III sometimes the boost would inexplicably tail off to about 14psi at high revs too......
Never been a problem with 3.5 though.

I remember Ash saying that some of the standard map sensors werent capable of reading full boost on un modified map sensors. They left the factory like this and if they arent reading 100% right then the ECU is gonna have trouble maintaining boost :(
