Hi Guys,

I have Phase 2 fitted to my Cavalier turbo with a custom intercooler. I also have a boost controller which allows me to switch between 0.7bar or 1bar boost. When running 1bar and I accelerate, the ecu light comes on and stores code 113, boost control out of range. Does the phase chip remove the boost limit or simply increase it? I thought 1bar was the right boost for Phase 2.

Also, the Phase 2 chips had Phase 1 written on them. I was informed by the distributor that Phase 2 uses the same chips as Phase 1 with the addition of the 3.5bar FPR and an Intercooler. Is this right or could it be the cause of my problems?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Tris !

first one simple question : Who was your distibutor ?

Perhaps they only swapped the chips , but the complete engine diagnose programming at the EDS-phase1 and 2 are totally diffrent !

You must get the EDS Phase-2 chips , then it works !

Please contact your local dealer and get the right chip from him for free !

Also , when you use an external boost controler up to 1.1 bar , your fuel pressussure MUST me at minimum 3.5 bar with the phase-2 chip !°

Hi Ash,

Thanks for your reply. I got the chips through RBX Motorsport who got them from Regal Autosport. When the chips were fitted and it was realised that they stated phase 1, Regal were contacted and said the chip was right, it was the uprated FPR and intercooler that made the kit phase 2.

I will contact Regal and let you know how I get on. Thanks again for your help.

Hi Tris,

As Arno has stated, the chips for the phase one and two are totally different regarding boost levels and fueling.

If you are struggling to get hold of these quickly, I have phase 2 kits in stock and I'd be happy to swap those chips with you if need be and I'll then sort out the problems this end.

Let me know!

Regards

Gavin Wallace

PS - ASH, this forum is great, we just need to attract more people!

Hi Gav,

Thanks mate. I haven't heard anything back from them yet so if I don't hear soon, I will take you up on your very kind offer. It makes me wonder if they have done this to other people aswell :(

Tris,l I had heard also that the phase 1 and 2 chips were the same . it wasn't till I contacted Gavin when I purchased my chips, that I discovered different. It makes u wonder who started the myth, and for what reason.
Hmmmmm?

Looking at everything thats been said it appears you have the Phase I chips Tris. When the ECU sees you going over the Phase I boost level it flashes up the light.

Hi Rich,

Yeah, Richard suspected something like that when he looked at the chips. He checked with Regal and they said they were right. I wonder how many other people have trusted Regal and ended up with the wrong chips. It could be an easy way of making some extra money  Although, I must accept it may just have been another unfortunate mistake.

Hi Guys,

Just to keep you updated; Regal have said they want to contact EDS before replacing my chips with the right ones. It shouldn't be too long now! :)

The car is now fitted with the correct chips and is running fine. It is a shame Regal didn't supply the correct chips to begin with but it is sorted now, even if it did take them nearly a month.

Thanks Arno and everyone else for your help with this matter.

Keep my fingers crossed ;)

Seriously though, next on the list for the engine is probably water injection, just for added piece of mind. I also need to sort the suspension out as it gets very bouncy at high speeds. I finish uni this year so hopefully I can get a proper job and have some more money to spend on it. I'm seriously considering buying a newer car and keeping the Cav for weekends and shows. Then I can have the time to get some serious power and not worry about the reliability. I don't want to stray too much from standard though as the car really is in exceptional condition and I want to look after it. I will probably stop at about 320bhp. Oh, and at some point I will need to upgrade the brakes. :D

:)
