Petrol Octane Rating??

EDS staff, what octane rating are the kits mapped to? I'm asking as I understand that german petrol has a higher octane rating than english 97RON.

That's quite interesting, as our standard pump fuel is 95RON and it's the super unleaded that's 97RON (used to be 98 ).

So effectively, to get the optimum performance from the kit, you would need to add an octane booster every time you filled up.

That would explain why there seems to be problems with the kit in england and why when people's cars go on the rollers (taking into account all variations) the kits don't quite get to the quoted bhp and lb/ft figures.

Can I also assume that this would be the same for the V-Max kits??

I think all kits are optimized for 98 Octane.

I think it's no problem...

The motronic 2.7 is using a knock-sensor.
So if the ignition map is setup with to much advance, and the engine starts knocking, then the motronic is retarding the ignition.

Correct me if i am wrong

Yeah the knock sensor will retard the ignition but it's a small working tollerance.

Touble is, when the engine goes bang! you don't often get enough of a warning to stop it from going!!

So, is it going to make much difference to how the car will perform, fuel, and run?

Shell sells a petrol called Optimax Allen, i'm sure you've heard about it before :wink:

Minimum Octane rating is 98.6 (but can be more). I have also seen Q8 selling there Super Unleaded at 98 octane rating. Being your management is standard though I dont think you'll have a problem......
