Knock sensor FC 16

This morning my ecu light came on and stored code 16.

(I have also been having boost problems for the last year. - not going above 0.5-0.8 bar - does feal like an ignition retard problem.)

What is the recomended advice ?

I have heard many things.

1) replace cable with screened cable back to the ecu.
I guess I should try this first as it's cheap.

2) re torque sensor. To what torque figures though ?

3) Fit a spacer. What was that about RDS ?

4) Could always change the sensor

Any advice gratefully receieved.

Everytime my car goes to silverstone it gets worse. (not on the track though)

Manual states 20Nm for that Andy.

Try checking and cleaning the terminals in the plug that joins the knock sensor/idle speed wiring loom to the main ECU loom (I think its a 5 pin one from memory) its usually located near the vent valve.
I've come across a couple of 16v's that have brought up this code and what has happened is the terminals have corroded a bit and so don't make great contact so causing a current drop too and from the sensor.

Worth a try before you start buying new bits and bobs.

Andy i used the aluminium washer trick which at lot of vaux dealers have used successfully to stop this problem!
It seems to work on mine but ive got so much stuff on my car now i wouldnt know what affected what

I checked the 5 pin plug and it;s like new.

I'll have to get the jack out and look at the red plug.
Do an oil change at the same time.
